NASWVA Virtual Town Hall Generates Shared Stories, Concerns about Trump Administration Actions
NASW Virginia's Virtual Town Hall March 26 united more than a dozen social workers for discussion of how the Trump administration’s mass federal worker firings, funding cuts, anti-immigration activities, and Executive Orders are affecting social work members and their clients.
The event offered mutual support and active listening, while attendees shared disturbing stories of the degraded mental health status they are seeing in highly stressed clients as the latter try to adjust to new realities and ongoing, rapid-fire government policy changes. Participants also suggested ways the chapter might help further support them such as continuing to keep them informed, giving them focus for guided advocacy efforts, and providing a safe forum for voicing their feelings and fears.
A free Virtual Town Hall also is scheduled for May 28. Registration opens shortly and is for members only.
