Invisible Threads: The Quiet Power of Social Work

ree

We’re thrilled to unveil the 2026 Annual Theme and Logo for NASW Virginia and Metro DC:“Invisible Threads: The Quiet Power of Social Work.”

This year’s theme celebrates the powerful, behind-the-scenes role social workers play every day. Though their work often goes unseen, it leaves a lasting, transformative impact—healing individuals, uplifting families, strengthening communities, and advancing justice.

Why “Invisible Threads”?

Like threads in a tapestry, social workers connect people, systems, and solutions. Their strength lies in empathy, resilience, and action—often carried out without recognition. This year’s theme lifts the veil on that invisible labor, honoring the critical yet quiet work that holds our communities together.

A Logo That Speaks Volumes

We are so excited to share our new logo—a powerful visual metaphor for this year’s theme. Each design element was intentionally chosen to reflect the values and mission of the profession:

  • 🟢 Green Figure (left) – Empathy & SupportRepresenting the grounded presence of a social worker, this figure symbolizes meeting others where they are—offering grace, stability, and unwavering support. Green evokes growth, healing, and balance.

  • 🔵 Blue Figure (right) – Leadership & AdvocacyThis standing figure embodies the guiding force of social workers in systems and policy. Blue conveys trust, professionalism, and calm authority.

  • 🟠 Orange Figure (center) – Community & ResilienceEmbraced by the others, this figure reflects the individuals and communities being served. Orange symbolizes warmth, energy, and transformation.

  • 🌈 Interwoven Ribbons – The Invisible ThreadsThe flowing, colorful lines connecting the figures represent the invisible threads of care, collaboration, and impact. These ribbons show how social workers interlace people, systems, and solutions—creating unity through movement and connection.

Looking Ahead

As we prepare for a meaningful year of learning, connection, and advocacy, we can’t wait to bring this theme to life through our 2026 events and programming.

Let this be a year where we recognize the quiet power behind social work and honor the invisible threads that strengthen our communities every day.

Stay tuned—more to come.
