NASW Welcomes Student Members!

Social work student membership is open to anyone currently enrolled in a CSWE-accredited social work degree program, or a program eligible for candidacy. Students are eligible for the BSW and/or MSW student membership category for each of the four years for each degree received.

​

NASW student members may apply for discounted professional liability insurance for student field placement.

​

NASW members represent the very best of social work in academia, practice, research, and policy. Through NASW, we have a larger voice and more influence with elected leaders, policy makers, and employers to make critical changes that support the social work profession and society. Join as a student member today!

Schools of Social Work in Virginia

 

To be a social worker, one must have a degree in social work from a college or university program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The undergraduate degree is the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). Graduate degrees include the Master of Social Work (MSW) and the Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) or PhD. An MSW is required to provide therapy. NASW Virginia offers a student ambassador opportunity for each school year. Applications are currently closed, check back frequently for more student opportunities, including internship and volunteer opportunities.

The Hampton Roads Community Foundation is currently accepting 2023-24 applications for The Memorial Scholarship Fund for Social Work Education started by the Hampton Roads Association of Social Workers.  

 

Applicants should be long-time Virginia residents pursuing graduate study in social work. They should have financial need and show a commitment to the field of social work through their education, volunteer activities or employment.

 

Students may visit our website at hamptonroadscf.org/scholarships and follow the instructions for submitting an online application. Applications are due by March 1, 2023.
