Urgent Call to Action: Help Us Protect Transgender Children in Schools! Tell Legislators to Vote No on All of These Harmful Bills

Numerous proposed laws are before the Virginia General Assembly that could remove protections for transgender children in schools, and NASW Virginia is fighting every one of them alongside our advocacy partner organizations.

We are especially looking for medical providers to testify who work with trans youth to speak to the overall well-being of youth when policy is in place, when they are welcomed into their schools, etc.

The SB 20/SB 766 Full Committee Action Link: Although these bills died in the Public Education subcommittee recently, the Senate Education and Health Committee is an unusual one and will have to vote again to officially kill these bills. This action will target the full committee (minus the senators on the subcommittee who already oppse these bills) to encourage them to vote NO on SB 20 and SB 766.

The HB 988 Action Link: HB 988 is on the docket to be heard by the House K-12 Education Subcommittee on Tuesday, February 1 at 5 p.m. This link will take you to an action that will target the members of that subcommittee. Unfortunately, the odds are not stacked in our favor with this group of delegates, so it's especially important that we get as many social workers to voice opposition as possible!

Link to sign-up to give virtual testimony Tuesday and/or submit written comments: If you want to speak virtually, please be sure to sign up by noon on Tuesday. You are also welcome to come in person to speak, if you feel comfortable. You do not have to sign up ahead of time to do so.
