SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 23 PASSED IN BOTH SENATE AND HOUSE
On January 6, 2010, Senator Fred Quayle introduced to the General Assembly, Senate Joint Resolution no. 23, provided by NASW-Virginia to designate the month of March in 2010 and in each succeeding year, as Professional Social Work Month in Virginia.
As of today, Senate Joint Resolution no. 23 has passed in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. NASW Virginia is thrilled with the progress the joint resolution has made and the framework it will provide for future recognition of our profession.
Please take a few minutes to read our Resolution in its entirety. The full text can be found here.
We all look forward to celebrating Social Work month with the General Assembly and across the Commonwealth of Virginia in coming years.

McCLELLAN'S BILL PASSED!
Today in House Education- Students and Daycare Subcommittee, Delegate McClellan’s HB 257, a bill directing the Department of Education to review it’s guidelines for Homebound Education to expand the eligible practitioners to bring a case forward to include licensed clinical social workers and licensed professional counselors. We supported this bill and last week, lobbyists on behalf of a variety of school personnel objected to the original language and the bill was tabled. We worked with the patron, as well as the opponents to redraft the bill to achieve the desired result in a clearer manner. Today, the bill was pulled off the table and reported unanimously. It will be up in the full Education Committee on Monday morning.
